Vol. 357 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Monaghan Drainage Schemes.

513.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money spent on Rivers Glyde and Dee and their tributaries in County Monaghan in 1982, 1983 and 1984; and the estimated amount to be spent in 1985.

Maintenance of completed arterial drainage schemes is carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works on a catchment basis and, in accordance with the terms of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, the costs incurred are recovered from the relevant county councils in proportion to the areas of benefited lands in each county. Expenditure on maintenance of the Glyde and Dee catchment drainage scheme recoverable from Monaghan County Council during the period 1982-84 was as follows: 1982, £44,800; 1983, £45,000; 1984, £46,000.

The amount for Monaghan County Council in 1985 will be of the order of £49,000.
