asked the Minister for Health the total amount of money paid to HOPE in 1983 and 1984; the estimated provision for 1985; and the date on which the money was sought and paid in each year.
Written Answers. - Grants to HOPE.
The information which the Deputy requested concerning payments to the HOPE organisation in 1983 and 1984 is outlined in the following tabular statement for convenience.
In relation to 1985 the Eastern Health Board has paid HOPE £20,000 on account in respect of this year's running costs. Meanwhile they have arranged for a review of the operation of the HOPE hostel including care policy, occupancy, staffing and salary levels. The board awaits the outcome of this review before deciding on the level of funding for the current year. I understand that officers of the board will be meeting representatives of HOPE on Monday next (1 April) to consider further the 1985 grant-in-aid.
To date the Department of Social Welfare has not received any applications from HOPE for assistance from the £650,000 provided in this year's budget for voluntary bodies in the social service area.
