asked the Minister for the Environment if he will now give sanction to Galway County Council for 4.3 miles of 10 inch and 12 inch pipe in the mid-Galway phase 1 group water scheme, instead of 15 miles trunk main, as the group will lose members and grants from the scheme; and if he will now allow the scheme to proceed.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 472 of 14 March 1985. This matter has since been the subject of local discussions between my Department and both Galway County Council and the mid-Galway group. Further discussions may be necessary with the parties concerned but, in any event, I hope to make a decision in the near future on matters within my area of responsibility.
