I understand that the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board are examining boats which would be suitable for salmon fishery protection work at sea in the Shannon region. As the bulk of the board's funds is provided by way of State grant, the cost of such a boat, if approved for purchase, would fall to be met from State funds. Pending receipt and examination of a detailed proposal from the board, however, I cannot say what assistance, if any, will be given by my Department.
