Vol. 357 No. 10

Written Answers. - Retirement Pension.

578.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason payment of a retirement pension has not been made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal who retired from his Department on 1 June 1984.

The person concerned who was made redundant last June would not have been entitled to a retirement pension from my Department until reaching 65 years of age. However, on 14 January 1985 on being certified medically as permanently unfit for work he became entitled to a pension on ill-health grounds. I understand that the necessary procedures under the relevant regulations have now been completed and that payment of pension will commence shortly. I regret that due to a misunderstanding of the situation of the position regarding payment of pension in this particular case was incorrectly stated in the reply to a question by the Deputy on 23 October 1984.
