asked the Minister for Health if, in relation to the Western Health Board, he will provide the following information: (1) the amount of finance allocated to the board for each of the years 1981 to 1985, inclusive; (2) the cost of running each hospital in the board area for 1983, 1984 and 1985; (3) the number of beds in each hospital and the average cost per bed per week; (4) the average length of stay of patients in the board area for 1983 and 1984; (5) the average number of patients per nurse in each hospital for 1983 and 1984; (6) the number of births in Castlebar general, Galway regional and Portiuncula hospitals for 1983 and 1984; (7) the number of out-patients treated in 1980, 1983 and 1984 in each hospital; and (8) if it is intended to introduce a work-sharing scheme for nurses in the board area.

In psychiatric hospitals the number of resident patients is taken to represent the number of beds.

(4) The average length of stay in acute hospitals in the board's area was 7.9 days in 1983. A corresponding figure for 1984 is not yet available.
