Vol. 357 No. 10

Written Answers. - Censorship of Films Appeal Board.

718.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state for the latest year for which figures are available:— (a) the number of members on the Film Censorship Board; (b) the number of employees working for the censor; (c) if he has a deputy/assistant or relief to act in his absence; (d) the number of clerical staff he has and the number of technical staff such as projectionists working for him; and (e) the amount of income and expenses of the board per annum paid by his Department.

Limerick East): I assume that at (a) of his question the Deputy is referring to the Censorship of Films Appeal Board which had nine members in the year ended 31 December 1984.

The answer to parts (b), (c) and (d) of the question are as follows: (b) Five; (c) Yes; (d) One clerical officer and three technical staff.

I assume that at (e) of his question the Deputy is referring to the income and expenses of the office of the film censor. On that assumption the answer to (e) is: — income in 1984 was £59,885; — expenditure in 1984 was £58,815.
