Vol. 358 No. 8

Written Answers. - NET and ICI Negotiations.

556.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he has had any discussions with the board of NET regarding reported negotiations between NET and the British company ICI; if he has been informed by the board of NET of the nature of their negotiations with ICI and when it is likely that they will be concluded; if it is proposed to sell any shares in NET to ICI; if he will seek the approval of the Oireachtas for any such move; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the nature of the negotiations taking place and my Department and I are maintaining continuing contact with the company on progress in this area.

These negotiations are proceeding on a confidential basis and it would be inappropriate for me to comment in any way on their detail. At this time it is not possible to indicate when negotiations might be concluded.

If, on the conclusion of the negotiations, it is considered necessary to obtain Oireachtas approval for any matter arising from the negotiations, such approval will, of course, be sought.
