Vol. 358 No. 8

Written Answers. - Income Tax Rebates.

594.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the application for a tax rebate made by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer submitted a claim to the inspector on 17 January 1985, for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment. Sufficient information was not available to the inspector to enable him to deal with the claim and he requested the taxpayer to submit a completed return of income. The relevant return was received in the tax office on 8 March 1985, but the inspector still requires information regarding the possible receipt of a social welfare pension. He has written to the taxpayer in the matter.

As the tax year 1984-85 has ended the taxpayer's claim will be dealt with by way of a review of his liability for the entire year. When the additional information requested by the inspector is supplied, the taxpayer's tax position for 1984-85 will be determined and any refund found due will be repaid as quickly as possible.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare in respect of the period from 8 February 1985, to 6 April 1985.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a review of the taxpayer's liability for the year 1984-85 was carried out and a cheque in settlement of the refund due was issued to her on 10 April 1985. There is no further refund due to the taxpayer.
