asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown of the £350,000 provided in the revised Estimates for Public Services, 1985 under the heading of public works, buildings and national monuments in the Trim district of County Meath.

There is a provision of £2,980,000 for 1985 in subhead J of Vote 10 — Public Works and Buildings — for the conservation and presentation of national monuments, for archaeological excavations and survey work. Of this, a sum of £350,000 has been allocated for the conservation and presentation of national monuments in the national monuments district which has its headquarters in Trim. This district is responsible for Counties Louth, Cavan, Monaghan, Meath, Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, Dublin, Kildare (Part) and Wicklow (Part).

The Trim district provision is made up of £280,000 for employing the forty strong district work force and £70,000 for the provision of materials, services and general operating costs. Apart from routine maintenance work at the monuments in State care major works will be in progress this year at Knowth Tumulus, Newgrange Tumulus and Maynooth Castle.
