Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

574.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway who paid £849 in tax in the last financial year and who is now unemployed cannot get a tax rebate.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 8 March 1985 and submitted a claim to the inspector of taxes for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment on 21 March 1985. The claim was dealt with on 2 April 1985 by way of a review of her liability for 1984-85 and a cheque in settlement of the refund found to be due was issued on 15 April 1985.

The taxpayer was married on 30 March 1985 and consequently she may be entitled to an additional repayment of tax for 1984-85 (the year of marriage) by reference to the provisions of section 6 of the Finance Act, 1983. The inspector of taxes wrote to her husband on 9 May 1985 for the information necessary to determine the position and a reply is awaited.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a review of the taxpayer's liability for 1983-84 was recently completed and a cheque in settlement of the balance of the refund due for that year will be issued as quickly as possible.
