Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - Farm Tax.

580.

asked the Minister for Finance if farmers who are in the over-80 adjustable acre bracket will be subject to the £10 per adjustable acre under the proposed new land tax; and, if so, if the charge will be treated as a tax credit or as an expense deduction.

As stated in the National Plan, Building on Reality 1985-1987 all agricultural holdings of 20 adjusted acres and over will be liable for the farm tax. Full-time farmers with holdings below 80 adjusted acres will be exempted from income tax. Farmers with holdings of 80 adjusted acres and over, while continuing to be liable for income tax, will receive a credit against that tax in respect of farm tax paid in the year of assessment.
