Vol. 359 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tipperary and Waterford Industries.

151.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the proposals he has for the establishment of new industries in South Tipperary-West Waterford for the extension of the existing industries; the location and the probable labour content involved; when the projects will materialise; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are actively promoting both the West Waterford and South Tipperary areas for manufacturing industry. Land banks are available at six sites in South Tipperary and four sites in West Waterford providing 130 acres for potential industrial projects. In addition, the IDA have two 3,000 sq. ft. units at Clonmel and one 5,400 sq. ft. unit at Fethard which are being promoted for suitable industrial projects.

It is anticipated that a number of existing firms in the West Waterford and South Tipperary areas will provide additional employment over the next two to three years. These include O'Reilly's Natural Irish Seafoods in Dungarvan whose employment is expected to increase to 40 over the next three years and Clonmel Chemicals in Clonmel, Cahir Meat Packers in Cahir and Dawn Fresh Foods in Fethard, the three of which have announced expansions in recent months which are expected to provide about 115 jobs within two years.
