The issue regarding this school is whether its continuance is in the best educational interests of the pupils. Last September it had an enrolment of only slightly in excess of 40. This resulted in some extremely small class groups. The educational possibilities as regards the range of facilities and of subject choice in a school of this size are necessarily severely limited.
The arrangements for post primary education in the Miltown Malbay/ Spanish Point catchment area are under review at present by my Department. A decision in the matter will have to await the outcome of this review.
