Vol. 359 No. 4

Written Answers. - Loughan House Offenders.

50.

asked the Minister for Justice if prisoners going to Loughan House are accompanied by Garda personnel; if he is aware that a recent group travelling to Sligo broke into the restaurant car and vandalised the car after helping themselves to refreshments; and who will meet the costs in this case.

Limerick East): Gardaí accompany offenders to Loughan only when they are returning offenders to the house who have absconded or who have been on temporary release and have failed to abide by the conditions of their release. In those circumstances the Garda would not use public transport.

I have no information that an incident of the kind described by the Deputy took place. I have asked the Garda to investigate the allegation and if the Deputy can provide me with more details I will pass them on to the Garda.
