Vol. 359 No. 4

Written Answers. - United States Visitors.

102.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the forecasted figures for United States visitors to Ireland; and if the present dollar exchange rate will have a significant effect on the numbers visiting this country this year.

The figures for United States visitors to Ireland in 1985 is forecast at between 357,000 and 370,000. This represents an increase of between 8 per cent and 12 per cent on the figure of 330,000 which is estimated to have been achieved in 1984.

The strength of the US Dollar relative to the Irish punt is expected to have a significant effect on the US tourist numbers. With this factor in mind Bord Fáilte have been engaged in increased promotional activity in that market.
