Written Answers. - School Transport.

120.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of circulars that were sent out by the Minister of State at his Department stating that £5,000 had been sanctioned by him for the purchase of a minibus for CBS primary school, James's St., Dublin 8; the total cost to the taxpayer; and if he will state separately the cost of the postage alone.

No circulars were issued in this matter by the Minister of State at my Department.

121.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of a commitment given in writing by the Minister of State at his Department to Brother Kiely, Principal, James's Street, CBS primary school, Dublin 8, sanctioning a grant of £5,000 for the purchase of a minibus as a result of which the principal purchased a new minibus only to be subsequently informed by the Dublin Corporation inner city group that they are only empowered to issue a cheque for £2,500; and, in view of the financial embarrassment caused to the school through the actions of his Minister of State, if he will grant the remaining £2,500 from his Departmental funds.

A grant of £5,000 in respect of the purchase of a secondhand minibus will be paid in this case provided the necessary details regarding the purchase are available to Dublin Corporation as agents of the Inner City Group.
