Information is not readily available to my Department as to how many of the 38 VEC's have had office computers installed and as to the type of computer installed in each case. The number of applications from VEC's at present considered by my Department for sanction for installation of office computers is 11, some of which are requests for replacement of existing computer facilities.

asked the Minister for Education whether the County Galway VEC has an application with her Department awaiting sanction for the purchase of a computer; the date on which the application was made; and the date on which she hopes to be in a position to approve the application.
An application was received from County Galway Vocational Education Committee towards the end of September 1984 for sanction to purchase a brand named office computer. The committee's proposal is being considered in my Department having regard to cost, the committee's needs, etc. and also in the context of similar applications received from other committees. I hope to be in a position to give a decision on the application in the near future.
