Vol. 360 No. 3

Written Answers. - Salmon Fishing Licence.

22.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will consider issuing a sea fishing salmon licence to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who is a full time self-employed fisherman; and the long term plan in relation to issuing new licences in this regard.

Under the Control of Fishing for Salmon Orders, 1980 and 1982, which govern the issue of salmon net fishing licences, the assessment of applications and the allocation of licences are matters for determination in accordance with the requirements of the orders by the regional fisheries board concerned. The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board considered an application for a draft net licence for 1985 from the person in question and decided not to allocate a licence to him.

Under the Control of Fishing for Salmon (Amendment) Order, 1982, the maximum number of draft net licences prescribed for the Wexford fishery district is 75 and I understand that this number has been issued by the board in respect of 1985. I have no proposals to change the relevant existing legislation.
