Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Building and Civil Engineering Projects.

120.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will supply the following information with regard to the building and civil engineering projects for which he is responsible and which have an estimated final cost in excess of £100,000 and which, having been brought to tender stage in the past five years, have been postponed for longer than one year and which are still postponed: (1) the title of each project; (2) a description of each project; (3) the estimated final cost of each project; (4) the names of the design team consultants and the amount paid to date in fees to each of the design team consultants; and (5) the reason for the postponement of each project and the prospects for the future completion of each project.

There is only one such project falling within the ambit of the Deputy's question, particulars of which are as follows:

(1) Extension to the Aer Lingus cargo terminal at Shannon Airport.

(2) Alterations to the existing cargo terminal, provision of additional accommodation of 21,000 square feet and consequential minor alterations — rearrangement of apron facilities.

(3) £592,000 (at 1979 prices).

(4) Two consultants were appointed, viz. Rooney McLoughlin Associates (Structural Engineers) and Mr. F. J. Horne (Quantity Surveyor). Fees amounting to £16,461.63 were paid to Rooney McLoughlin Associates and fees amounting to £9,308.11 were paid to Mr. F. J. Horne. Aer Lingus recouped the Exchequer cost of the consultants' fees.

(5) In December 1980 it was decided not to proceed with the project because of the financial position of Aer Lingus at that time. Consideration is now being given to the question of proceeding with the project.
