Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Betting Tax Evasion.

131.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of licensed bookmakers convicted of betting tax evasion during 1984 and if he will state in respect of each person convicted (a) the total fine imposed and (b) the amount of the fine mitigated by him, if any.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of licensed bookmakers convicted of betting duty evasion during 1984 was 31. The following table shows, in respect of each conviction, the amount of the fine imposed by the courts. It is not the practice to disclose particulars of mitigation granted by the commissioners for offenders.
