Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Registration of Still Births.

148.

asked the Minister for Health if he will agree to establish a register of still births; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no provision in existing legislation for the registration of still births. In the case of babies who are still-born, the present legislation provides only for their notification to the public health authorities and the records are available for medical research.

The legislation in relation to the registration of births, deaths and marriages is at present under review. The question of whether still-born children should be registered will be considered in the course of this review.
