Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Roscommon School.

378.

asked the Minister for Education when she will authorise Roscommon Vocational Education Committee to prepare the bills of quantities for the approved extension at Ballaghaderreen vocational school; when she will allow the project to proceed to tender; and if she is aware of the lack of progress on the project over the past one and a half years despite the compliance by Roscommon VEC with all the demands made on it by her Department's building unit.

379.

asked the Minister for Education if she will approve a proposal by Roscommon VEC to carry out a major extension to Ballaghaderreen vocational school, County Roscommon

I propose to take Questions Nos. 378 and 379 together. My Department had already approved the building of an extension at this school to enable it to cater for 275 pupils. However, this project like all projects in the course of planning is being reviewed by my Department in the context of the "Programme for Action in Education 1984-1987". This examination must take into account the existing post primary school resources in the catchment area and the future provision to be made for the centre.

In this context, I have asked the officials of my Department to meet a deputation from County Roscommon VEC to discuss the matter at an early date. Pending the outcome of these discussions and of the Department's review of the case, I am not in a position to provide details on the future progress of this project.
