Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Housing Repairs.

72.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the urgent need for a major improvement scheme as submitted by Tipperary South Riding County Council in respect of houses at areas (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will outline his proposals and make a statement on the matter.

Under the remedial works scheme for local authority houses which was introduced last year, capital moneys, subsidisable at a rate of up to 80 per cent may be made available to local authorities to fund essential repairs of a structural nature to "low cost" houses and certain older houses suffering from structural deterioration.

I have received proposals from Tipperary (SR) County Council and Tipperary UDC seeking assistance under the scheme in respect of houses at Woodview, Castlequarter and Carronreddy. I have not received any proposal in respect of Clerihan, Clonmel. I am awaiting the receipt of further technical details from the local authority in regard to the Carronreddy proposal. I hope to be in a position to make a decision on the Woodview and Castlequarter proposals in the near future.
