Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Endorsement.

73.

asked the Minister for the Environment regarding Parliamentary Question No. 583 of 23 April 1985 the reason an endorsement has not been removed from the licence of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3.

In my reply to Question No. 583 put down by the Deputy on 23 April 1985, I explained the legal position generally in regard to endorsements on driving licences. On the basis of information supplied by the licensing authority, I indicated that the person involved, who was granted a three year licence on 30 September 1982, would have satisfied, by 29 September 1985, the particular legal requirement that an endorsement be carried on a licence for a continuous period of three years and could then be granted a licence free from that endorsement.

However, arising from a difficulty created by the fact that a copy of the original endorsement was not entered on the licence in question when it was granted, the licensing authority considered that he was not entitled to a licence free from endorsement when renewing his licence on 10 October 1985. The matter has now been resolved and arrangements are being made for the granting of a licence free from endorsement in this case.
