Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway Group Water Scheme.

89.

asked the Minister for the Environment when approval will be given for Stage 2 of the mid-Galway group water scheme; and the areas to be served by Stage 2.

The design for phase 2 of the mid-Galway group water scheme is being examined in my Department following the recent commencement of phase 1 of the scheme. According to the proposals submitted, phase 2 of the scheme will serve an area abounded on the west side by the Monivea-Athenry Road but crossing this road to serve the Mountain North and Park area north of Athenry. The Monivea-Menlough Road is just to the north of the area and the extent of the scheme on the east side is Cloonkeen and Gurteen. The Galway-Dublin railway line will form the southern boundary of the scheme. To date the group has canvassed the following townlands within this area: Cloonkeen, Toorkeel, Ballyboggan, Cahertubber, Ballydavid, Bengarra, Cappamoyle, Newcastle, Cormacoo, Derrough, Lenamore, Woodvillage, Laughatora, Tiaquin, Coodoo, Tysaxon and Mountain. It is not possible at this stage to say when grants will be allocated to enable phase 2 of this scheme to proceed.
