Vol. 361 No. 5

Written Answers. - Re-establishment of Law Reform Commission.

30.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware that the Law Reform Commission have ceased to exist; and if he will take immediate action to ensure that this body are re-established and enabled to continue the valuable and very practical research which they have been undertaking and which is recorded in their numerous reports.

It is not correct to say that the Law Reform Commission have ceased to exist. They are a body corporate, and their research and other staff are continuing their work on the current programme for law reform which was drawn up by the commission and approved by the Government.

The Government, in consultation with the Attorney General, have been considering ways in which the contribution of the commission to the important question of continuing reform of the law can be made more effective. The question of appointments to membership of the commission is also being considered in this context.
