Vol. 361 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Review Group on Forestry.

31.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reasons the Review Group on Forestry who were appointed in November 1984, and who were to report by 1 June 1985, have not yet reported; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

56.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when the findings of the Review Group on Forestry will be published; and the reason for the undue delay in the matter.

I propose to take Question No. 31 and Priority Question No. 56 together.

I understand that the Forestry Review Group have almost completed their work and that their report will be submitted to me in the very near future. Having regard to the complexity of the task I do not accept that there was undue delay by the group who have been meeting very frequently during the past year.

Will the Minister confirm that prior to the final report of the review body, the individual members whom he appointed to the review body gave him a synopsis of the main recommendations and the trend of those recommendations?

I wish to point out to the Deputy that indeed I got a synopsis of the up to date position on where they stood prior to the completion by the——

From two individuals.

I have a right to consult with and talk to any member of any board I appoint at any time without "by your leave" from the Deputy or anybody else. I stand over that right.

And we have a right to question the Minister about the situation.

I fail to see why that right is suggested to be something I should not exercise by people who ought to know better. I am sure that Deputy Daly in this House as Minister——

——has had the same right to ask.

——had exactly the same right.

(Interruptions.)

Question Time is over.

Seeing that——

Deputy Daly will resume his seat. Question Time is over. Questions down for oral answer today which have not been reached will go for written answer unless reballoting is requested before 4 p.m.

I request that mine do not go for written reply.

Please tell them in the General Office.

Le do chead, ba mhaith liom gceist 18 inniu a ardú ar an athló.

Cuirfidh mé scéil chugat.

Could I raise on the Adjournment the matter of the serious problem that has arisen with the takeover of DMP in Dundalk by Tír Laighean and the serious problem that has arisen with milk sales in the Dundalk area as a result of the subsidisation of sales in the area by outside co-operatives?

I will communicate with Deputy Kirk.

I ask your permission to raise with the Minister for Education on the Adjournment the serious effect her review is having on school projects in County Galway and in particular on Our Lady of Mercy College project in Woodford and on seven VEC school projects.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
