My Department carried out a survey in 1983 which indicated that there are 3,500 hectares approximately of land suitable for afforestation in County Louth. However, due to tenure factors, only 700 hectares of this is rated likely to be acquired over the next 20 years. There have been no offers for the past five years but local officials of my Department are constantly alert for any opportunity to get offers of land.
