I am fully aware of the need to undertake development and maintenance at many fishery harbours. The question of maintenance is a matter for the local authority concerned except in respect of the fishery harbour centres. My Department have ongoing programmes for the development and improvement of fishery harbours aimed at the provision of landing, berthing and servicing facilities but because of the limited Exchequer funds available, priority must be accorded to the most urgent improvement works.
