Vol. 361 No. 9

Written Answers. - Wexford Shooting Restrictions.

85.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the scientific basis on which the recent decision was made to remove the shooting ban on the Greenland goose in the Wexford area; and if it was in accordance with the recommendations which were made to him by his scientific advisers.

The decision to permit the resumption of limited hunting of the Greenland white-fronted goose in County Wexford was based on the findings of research studies carried out by the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department over the past three years and was in accordance with the scientific recommendations of that study. The limited shooting being permitted will be closely monitored and controlled by my Department.
