Vol. 361 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Duty Free Shop.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is his intention to introduce duty-free facilities at Dún Laoghaire harbour so as to provide this facility to Irish citizens and non-nationals travelling abroad and to give extra employment in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to facilities of the nature of a duty-free shop. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that they have not received any application for approval by them of a duty-free shop at Dún Laoghaire harbour.

Any such shop would involve additional administrative costs for the customs. Having regard to the duty-free facilities already available on board the ships, it is doubtful whether the establishment of a duty-free shop at the harbour would be justified.
