Vol. 362 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act.

12.

asked the Minister for Labour if he accepts that owing to the continued recession the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act, 1977, requires immediate amendment and when he proposes to amend this Act.

I am not clear as to the sense of the first part of the question. There has been no perceptible increase in the number of breaches of the Act which have come to the notice of my Department in recent years, in the course of inspections by inspectors from the Department or through complaints.

As to the second part of the question, I have no immediate proposal to amend the 1977 Act. However, I will be glad to consider, when the Act is next being reviewed, any specific amendments that the Deputy may wish to suggest. I will also be pleased to arrange for investigation by my Department of any individual cases of alleged breaches of the Act which the Deputy may wish to bring to my attention.
