The cost to the Exchequer, estimated by reference to the current income tax year of indexing the income tax bands and the married, single, widowed, single parent, child, employee (PAYE) and PRSI allowances by reference to the 4.9 per cent rate of inflation at mid-November, 1985, is estimated at £50 million in 1986 and £83 million in a full year.
