A sketch scheme for the proposed new school referred to has been prepared by my Department. The submission of evidence of title to the site and local authority planning permission are now awaited from the school authorities.

The remaining stages of planning which have to be completed before construction can commence and which cannot proceed until the foregoing matters have been dealt with, include the negotiation of a suitable local contribution, the formal sanctioning of a grant, the preparation of contract documents, the invitation of tenders and the placing of a contract.

It is not possible at this stage to give an indication of the time scale for each stage, or to say when building work may commence.

asked the Minister for Education the present position with regard to the planning of a new school (details supplied) in County Galway; the remaining steps to be completed before construction work can commence; if he will give an indication of the time scale for the completion of each stage and for the commencement of the school.

My Department has prepared a sketch scheme for the proposed new County Galway school in question and will shortly be referring this to the school authorities and will be negotiating with them in the matter of determining a suitable local contribution towards the cost of the erection of the proposed new school. When these negotiations have been completed a formal grant offer will be issued.

The remaining stages of planning will include the preparation of the contract documents, the invitation of tenders and the placing of a contract. I am not in a position to say how long each stage may take or when building work may commence.
