Vol. 365 No. 11

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cavan has not been paid unemployment assistance.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that, by failing to furnish particulars of his means, he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit.

He appealed against the disallowance and the papers were returned to the social welfare officer for reinvestigation, as he had indicated a willingness to co-operate in the disclosure of his means. The inquiries were completed recently and the means of the person concerned were reassessed at nil, with effect from 31 July 1985.

He is, accordingly, entitled to unemployment assistance at the appropriate maximum weekly rate of £33.80. Payment will commence this week, and all arrears due, less the amount of supplementary welfare allowance advanced to him pending a decision on his claim, will also be paid. Further weekly payments will continue to be made as they become due.
