Vol. 365 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dublin Coal Dust Pollution.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment the current situation in relation to coal dust pollution in the Dublin area; the methods he intends taking to alleviate the problem; and if there have been any complaints to his Department in this regard.

I am not aware of any extensive coal dust problems existing at present in Dublin. Detailed assessment would, however, be a matter for the Dublin local authorities.

The Air Pollution Bill, 1986, when enacted, will enlarge the powers available to local authorities to deal with air pollution problems generally, including those caused by coal dust. Two specific complaints regarding coal dust in Dublin have been reported to my Department since January 1985.
