Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nuclear Dumping at Sea.

15.

asked the Minister for Energy how Ireland voted on the resolution against nuclear dumping at sea, at an international conference in London last year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This question apparently relates to the Ninth Consultative Meeting of the London Dumping Convention held in London between 23 and 27 September 1985. A resolution put before the meeting and voted upon called for agreement that all dumping of radioactive wastes and other radioactive matter at sea be suspended until certain specified studies and assessments had been carried out. Ireland voted in favour of the resolution which was carried by 25 votes to six with seven abstentions.
