In accordance with the conditions of the scheme, grants for house improvements are based on costs estimated by the Department's inspectors using standard costings. On that basis the applicant is not eligible for the pre-1940 dwellings grant as the estimated cost of works did not reach the qualifying threshold of £4,000. A maximum grant of £2,000 has been approved under category (f) of the scheme relating to both necessary repairs and windows-door replacement.

asked the Minister for the Environment the level of grant assistance being given to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow, who has recently applied for a house improvement grant.
This application was among those covered by the dispensation from the prior inspection requirement and notification issued to the applicant authorising him to proceed with the work in respect of which his application was made. However, he has since requested an inspection before commencing work and this is being arranged with a view to determining the amount of grant to be approved.

A recent inspection revealed that all work on the house had not been completed. A list of outstanding works has been sent to the applicant and a further inspection will be arranged when notification is received that all works have been completed.
