Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ministerial Travelling Expenses.

68.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will state in respect of each Minister of State in his Department, for the last year for which figures are available: the number of civilian drivers employed; the total cost of salaries paid to the drivers; the total cost of expenses paid to the drivers; and the total mileage allowance paid to the Ministers of State in respect of the use of their own car.

A Minister of State was only appointed to the Department of the Public Service on 13 February 1986. Consequently, it is not possible to provide the information sought by the Deputy in respect of a period of a year. Following, however, is such information for the period 13 February to 1 May 1986: (i) number of civilian drivers employed, 2; (ii) total cost of salaries paid to the drivers, £4,603; (iii) total cost of expenses recouped to the drivers, £939; (iv) total mileage allowance recouped to the Minister of State in respect of the use of his own car, £2,742.
