The work of the central and regional fisheries boards is kept under constant review by my Department since the boards were set up on 29 October 1980.
I am awaiting the submission to me, by the Central Fisheries Board, of development programmes for various aspects of inland fisheries as provided for in section 8 of the Fisheries Act, 1980. The funding of these programmes will be considered in conjunction with the programmes themselves and in the light of the prevailing budgetary position. In the meantime finance is being provided to the central and regional fisheries boards to continue development work on an ongoing basis.
