Vol. 368 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) College.

95.

asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to the proposed regional college to serve the Tallaght area, he will indicate: (a) when construction work will begin; (b) when it will be completed; (c) the number of students it will facilitate; (d) the courses that will be available and the status of these courses; and (e) whether there will be any youth and community work related courses.

Architectural planning of the college has commenced. However, at this early stage it is not possible to say when building work is likely to start and finish. Every effort is being made to ensure that planning of the project will be completed as quickly as possible. The building is being designed to cater for 1,200 students.

Detailed course structure will be a matter in the first instance for the vocational education committee and the board of management of the college. In designing and establishing courses due regard will be given to the industrial, technological, commercial and, where appropriate, social needs of the Tallaght region.
