Vol. 369 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority House Loans.

25.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the significant number of families who have obtained house loans from local authorities, funded from his Department and who, by the loss of employment, i.e. redundancy and through no fault of their own, cannot continue with repayments; and if special assistance can be made available so that these families will not lose their homes.

Housing authorities are prepared to deal sympathetically with instances where a borrower is experiencing difficulties in meeting his loan repayments and endeavour to come to a mutually acceptable arrangement, where possible. Any such arrangements are best made at local level and do not require state intervention or assistance.
