Vol. 369 No. 12

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 37 and 38.

By agreement, the Dáil shall sit later than 9 p.m. today and not later than 11 p.m. and business shall be interrupted at 10.30 p.m. today.

Also by agreement, the proceedings on the remaining Stages of No. 37 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 1.30 p.m. today by one question which shall be put from the Chair and which shall in relation to amendments include only amendments set down by the Minister for the Environment.

Private Members' Business shall be No. 57.

Are the arrangements for today's business agreed to and the late sitting? Agreed. Item No. 37, Dublin Metropolitan Streets Commission (No. 2) Bill, 1986: Committee Stage (resumed). Deputy Burke was in possession.

May I ask the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fact that a man is on hunger strike——

Strictly speaking, Deputy, we have moved from that now. It may have been a bit of a shock, but we are now moving to Item No. 37 and I am not going back.

In fairness, I have always abided by your ruling. May I ask——

Deputy, please.

——for the Chair's ruling due to public disquiet about this man who is still on hunger strike?

Deputy Prendergast, please.

This is more of a public inquiry.

Throw him out.

Order, please.

Having beaten this side of the House into submission, this should not be tolerated.

I am now going back to Item No. 37.

May I ask for your ruling?

No. I am sorry.

Put him out.

May I raise on the Adjournment the matter of my deep concern at the attitude of both the ACC and the Associated Banks in accepting the applications of deserving men and necessitous farmers for the Euro-currency loan?

I shall communicate with the Deputy.

They are all running from the sinking ship.

With some rather doubtful sailors.

Captain Birdseye.
