Vol. 369 No. 12

Written Answers. - Application for Naturalisation.

73.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason for the delay in granting Irish citizenship to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person mentioned in the details supplied submitted a completed application for naturalisation in October 1983. Processing of the application necessitated protracted inquiries when initial inquiries revealed that the applicant had not complied with aliens' regulations.

Prior to the completion of the inquiries the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1986, was enacted. As it appeared that the applicant was entitled under that Act to lodge a declaration accepting Irish citizenship as his post-nuptial citizenship, my Department wrote to him on 29 July 1986 inquiring if he wished to lodge a declaration. No reply has been received to that letter.
