Vol. 369 No. 12

Written Answers. - Castlerea (Roscommon) School.

79.

asked the Minister for Education if he will outline developments regarding the provision of post primary school facilities in Castlerea, County Roscommon, if he will give details of the proposed community school schedule of accommodation; and when plans will be completed and a bill of quantities prepared to allow the project go out to public tender.

The new community school approved for Castlerea, County Roscommon, will have accommodation for 675 pupils and will replace the existing Convent of Mercy and vocational schools. It will be located on the convent site and will incorporate some good existing buildings. The school will be coeducational and will have a comprehensive range of facilities for a school of this size, including 11 general classrooms, library, lecture rooms, social studies rooms, physical education hall, pastoral areas, general purpose—dining area, 20 specialist rooms plus ancilliary spaces.

Architectural planning is proceeding and the design team are presently working on stages 3 and 4 (developed sketch scheme and working drawings). When these stages are submitted and cleared by my Department the bills of quantities will be prepared before tenders are invited. It is not possible at this stage to give a precise date for invitation of tenders.
