asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons a home improvement grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; if he will direct immediate payment; the date and the amount of this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A maximum grant of £2,000 for necessary repairs to the basic fabric of the house was paid on 6 November 1986.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the substantial delay in the payment of a reconstruction grant for a person (details supplied) in County Louth; the date of application; the date of approval; the date of notification of completion; the date of final inspection; the date of inspector's report to Department; the date of payment order being made; the approximate date when payment will now be made by his Department; and if he will make a statement as to the reason the processing of this application should take 11 months.

There has been no undue delay in this case. The application was received on 5 December 1985 and a maximum grant of £2,000 for the provision of an extension was approved on 17 January 1986. Notification of completion of works was received on 11 June 1986. The Department's inspector was unable to gain access to the house on 12 August 1986 but he left notification at the time that a further inspection would be arranged. This further inspection was carried out on 24 September 1986. However, payment of the grant could not be finalised until certain additional information relating to the carrying out of the work was furnished by the applicant. This was received on 31 October 1986 and payment of the grant will be made shortly.

Under the conditions of the scheme all necessary repairs specified on the certificate of approval, including the replacement of defective windows and doors, must be carried out in order to qualify for such a grant. The applicant has been so informed.
