Vol. 370 No. 3

Written Answers. - Proposed Southern Cross Route.

62.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the concern being expressed in the south Dublin suburbs of Leopardstown, Foxrock and Stillorgan, amongst many other areas, about the proposed route to be taken by the southern cross route; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The development of this scheme is primarily a matter for the local authority concerned, Dublin County Council. In May 1986, the local authority's outline plans for the scheme were approved by my Department without prejudice to any statutory procedures that may arise. The local authority is at present preparing a motorway scheme and a compulsory purchase order in respect of the route. Before a decision is taken, a public local inquiry will be held. This public inquiry will present a forum for any person wishing to express views in respect of the scheme. In view of my quasi-judicial function in relation to motorway schemes and compulsory purchase orders, I am not in a position to offer any further comment in the matter.
