Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - Tax Refund.

177.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the payment of a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer ceased employment in May, 1983 and submitted a claim for repayment of tax in September of that year. The details of tax deducted as shown on his form P.45 (cessation certificate) did not appear to be correct. The inspector made an attempt to contact the employer by telephone for clarification of the amount of tax deducted but he was not successful. Due to an oversight on the part of the inspector the matter was not further pursued.

The inspector will now write to the taxpayers for certain information which is required to enable a review of his tax liability for 1983-84 to be carried out. Any tax which may have been overpaid for that year will then be refunded.
