Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - Tallaght Employment Exchange.

213.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare her views on whether the Tallaght employment exchange is grossly understaffed with only a staff of 16 to deal with almost 6,000 cases; and if she will, as a matter of urgency, have additional staff deployed to alleviate the burden of work and avoid any undue delays.

There are at present some 5,500 unemployed applicants signing at the employment exchange, Tallaght and their claims are dealt with by staff totalling 26. Seventeen of the staff are based at the employment exchange Old Bawn Road, Tallaght and the remainder are located at the employment exchange, Werburgh Street. All unemployment payments are made through the postal system and orders are issued each week for encashment at the eight local post offices which serve the Tallaght area.

The Department are not aware of undue delay in dealing with unemployment claims affecting persons signing at the employment exchange, Tallaght. If, however, the Deputy is aware of delay in dealing with cases and if she furnishes details to enable the claimants to be identified the cases will be fully investigated and the Deputy will be advised of the outcome.
